We gave this dog a name recently.
We found her one night when we went fishing and while we looked for her owners we needed something to call her. The kids decided Lucky was a good name, since we were lucky to find her.
The morning after we found her we took her to the vet since she was bleeding from a cut in her neck and from her nose. After several tests and x-rays and three hundred dollars, we walked out with our Lucky dog and a bottle of antibiotics. I called Swap Shop that morning to put her on the Pet Patrol. Because everyone listens to Swap Shop when they are looking for their lost dog. I listened too hoping to hear someone who lost their little dachshund mutt and was desperately looking for her. There was nothing like that, just ads for antiques and people looking for free furniture.
While we continued to search for her owners, we also bought her a collar. That way we could put her on a leash and walk the neighborhood. We would let her in our house and she would eat a little and then find a place to cuddle up. We thought, 'what a great dog she is.'
After a couple weeks and no one claimed this doggy, we realized that she probably was purposely dumped in the pond and we were now the owners of a black mutt dachshund. We got her a tag to hang from her collar. It has her name, Lucky, with our house address and phone number.
She's official.
Funny thing is, after the antibiotics kicked in- Lucky started to feel better. She no longer comes inside and just cuddles up. She races through the house like a black missile. Then she eats her bowl of dog food, moves on to the other's dog's bowl of food and tries to sneak into the cat's food also. She barks at our neighbor as he works in his garden and darts out of our yard whenever she see an opening. She's made her own little doggy door through our sliding screen and most recently tore up the hot tub cover. That's right, she dug through the vinyl, then the plastic undernieth and was chewing up the styrofoam when I caught her. After we put duct tape over all the places she ripped up (all we had was red duct tape, it looks awesome) she then did it all again, plus adding new rips. So now there is a little bit of fencing around the hot tub to keep the mutt dog out.
Aren't we lucky?

Oh my!!! Thanks for the friendly reminder of why I don't have a dog, and thanks for validating all of my reasons for making that decision!!! Good luck with all the energy and excitment. :)
Now you know why she was DUMPED!!
Well, it is a really cute dog. . .
